The Ages of Man
These images were conceived by Hartley Burr Alexander, and sculpted by Lee Lawrie and his teams of carvers. The four ages he describes are Childhood, Youth, Adulthood, and Old Age. These are located in the Great Hall of the Nebraska State Capitol.
Childhood. Days filled with play.
Youth, young men studying and exercising.
Adulthood. A woman heavy with child, and her husband, performing the work of a blacksmith, although he might be a farmer, who uses his skills to earn a living. Note the sheaves of grain she holds.
Old Age. One man looks forward and another looks back.
