The exterior of the National Academy of Sciences Building includes Lawrie’s Parade of Scientists, a procession of historical figures that makes scientific inquiry visible in stone.
At the south main entrance, the pediment is framed by owls and carries a border of figures and symbols: a pterodactyl, butterflies, a goat, an archer, a trilobite, acanthus and the sun.
